Phek, June 15 (MExN): In a bid to enhance Kiwi cultivation and boost the rural economy, one-day training on commercial Kiwi cultivation was jointly organised by Sustainable Development Research Centre (SDRC), Chümoukedima and North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCoRMS), Shillong at Thipüzu village, Phek on June 14.

The training was conducted as a part of the project ‘Establishment of Kiwi Orchard with Elite Planting Materials in the North East India (2022-23)’ funded by North Eastern Council (NEC), M/DoNER, Government of India, stated a press release received here. 

Addressing the training, Mihin Dollo, Sr Manager, Natural Resource & Project Management, NERCoRMS delved into various aspects of Kiwi cultivation, including climate and location, soil preparation, plantation, trellis system, pruning, organic manures, and harvesting, to optimize yields and ensure the overall success of Kiwi farming.

Dr Neli Lokho Pfoze, DPD, Tirap-CRMS, Khonsa, highlighted the importance of adopting scientific cultivation techniques and the benefit it will provide in the long run. 

The welcome address and introductory remarks were delivered by Dr Mechűselie Kehie, Chairman, SDRC. Sevohu Khamu chaired the program and led the interaction and discussion session.

Altogether 32 participants attended the training.
