Medziphema, April 5 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised two-day training on Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema on April 3 and 4. 

A press release issued by Director, SAMETI & Principal IETC Medziphema stated that during the training, resource person Jacob Yanthan, Additional Director, Department of Agriculture, Nagaland highlighted about the scheme of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) now changed to Per Drop More Crop (PDMC), which is being undertaken as a mission in the entire country.

He emphasised on the importance and judicious use of water in order to increase the productivity of crops and income of farmers through precision water management. In the process, he explained in detail, the objectives of this scheme to all the Extension functionaries of ATMA such as Dy PDs, Block Technology Managers (BTMs), Assistant Technology Managers (ATMs) from all districts and blocks of Nagaland. 

He also encouraged the potential use of water in agriculture activities by applying the method of PDMC and giving adequate focus in extending coverage on enhancing water use efficiency at farm level through various modern technologies such as micro, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. Later, a practical demonstration was executed wherein all the extension officials were prompted to disseminate the information to the farmers at block/district levels of Nagaland.

Lastly, some of the major activities that are carried out are Construction of field channel, Water Harvesting Structure, Distribution of pipe, Preparation of raised bed & furrow system, Water lifting device, Sprinkler Irrigation, Drip Irrigation, etc.

The valedictory programme was chaired by Yezaho Swu, Deputy Project Director, SAMETI while feedback on the training was given by the participants. Certificates were distributed to the trainees by Jacob Yanthan and Dr Watimongla Jamir, Director SAMETI and Principal IETC. Janet Chishi, DPD SAMETI pronounced the vote of thanks.
