Phek, January 9 (MExN): Sustainable Development Research Centre (SDRC), Chümoukedima conducted a training programme on the scientific cultivation of Kiwi, aimed at empowering farmers with scientific techniques and insights for optimal kiwi production. 

The training was held on January 8 at Thipüzu village, under Phek district. The training was conducted as part of the project titled “Establishment of Kiwi Orchard with Elite Planting Materials in the North East India” funded by NERCORMS (NEC), M/DoNER, Government of India.

Addressing the training, Dr Mechüselie Kehie, Chairman & Director, SDRC, delved into a wide range of topics covering land preparation, plantation, trellis system, crop management, pruning, organic manures, harvesting, all tailored to maximize kiwi yields while maintaining sustainable practices. 

Sevohu Khamu, an expert in Kiwi farming, delivered insightful opening remarks and led the interaction and discussion session emphasizing the adoption of modern practices to enhance kiwi productivity. A highlight of the program was the hands-on field trial for pit digging employing the use of earth auger. Mhaseveyi Veyie pronounced the invocation and Dr Pelesakuo Kehie chaired the programme.

Altogether 53 participants and three officials attended the training.
