A training programme initiated by Pabhoi Greens in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme is underway at Khonoma village from October 30.

Khonoma, October 30 (MExN): A training programme initiated by Pabhoi Greens in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was conducted at Khonoma village under the topic capacity building among women farmers on ‘sustainable agricultural practices.’ The training will be held from October 30 to November 1, stated a press release.
Pabhoi Greens is a private agri-based farmhouse in Assam which over the years, has grown to encompass arenas ranging from vegetables, rice, animal farming, seed production, to social and education activities. It is also well known for its organic heirloom seed production. It may be mentioned here that over the years, PG has grown to make a name not just in its home state but at an international platform as well.
Neelam Dutta, Managing Director, Pabhoi Greens and the person behind the training programme shared his hope that the three-day event will benefit and encourage young upcoming generation to take up farming as a serious profession, given its vast potential today.
Dr Prasanta Kumar Boro, Assistant Professor, Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science presented two lectures on ‘Pig Rearing’ and ‘Backyard Poultry Farming’. He maintained that pig rearing is an important and economically viable source of income, given that pork is an essential source of food in the North East. On the diseases affecting the livestock, Boro stressed the need of vaccination and proper hygiene for safe and healthy consumption. He also enlightened the gathering on the various feeds available and ways to identify diseases, thereby taking appropriate steps.
Dr Namani Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Tezpur University expressed her pleasure at the strong sense of community and oneness which she witnessed at the village. She called upon the group to deliberate further on how the feeling of the collective can further their interests in their agricultural pursuits. She stressed on the need to shift focus on the individual to the collective. She maintained that there should be proper co-operation and that there should be transparency.
Dealing on the practicalities and her long experience with co-operative societies, she further urged the group to maintain the spirit of oneness and to lay down rules and regulations which will go a long way in preventing detrimental happenings which may turn up in the long run.
Ranjan Kro and Rovizono Meru, both Horticulturists and representatives from Pabhoi Greens demonstrated on grafting and cutting, while representatives from the Horti and Agri departments also came and interacted with the gathering.
