Training on water quality standards held for grass root level workers

Dimapur, August 22 (MExN): Water quality monitoring and surveillance training for grass root level workers was held at PHED, Urban division Dimapur on August 22 at the office of sub-divisional officer, PHED maintenance Urban Division Dimapur and sponsored by Sanitation & WSSO, PHED Nagaland 

The department in a press release stated that the training was lead by SDO Chümoukedima, Er W Thomson and SDO Maintenance, Er Mughalo V Sumi and Er Mughalo gave the welcome address and introduction of the staff and Er Watisangba, JE pronounced the invocation. 

Resource person, Roland Kikon, State Chemist PHED, spoke on water quality standards. He talked on the importance of drinking safe water. He said that clean looking water may not be safe for consumption and he encouraged all trainees to know their water quality before consuming. He also explained how water can be physically, chemically and biologically contaminated and that excessive contamination can cause health problems. Kikon gave a detailed description of the chemical contaminations that we find in water. 

Tzutipokla Longkumer, Chemist DWSM, conducted hands on training of the field testing kit and all the trainees were taught how to test the water step by step giving a detailed description of the procedure to follow and the contents of the FTK. Each village was given Field Testing Kit (FTK) by the department.
