Training prog for tour guides, homestay owners

Kohima, April 23 (MExN): The   Department of tourism, Government of Nagaland in collaboration with Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) has organized a 2 day long capacity building and training for tour guides and homestay owners from April 19 to 20 at Pfutseromi village in Phek district in coinciding with Tsukhenyie festival.

Participants from Pfutsero and neighbouring villages attended the training.

A formal session was held on April 19. The session was chaired Veluzo Tetseo, proprietor of Compass Tours while  keynote address was delivered by Peter Trakha, Tourist Officer, Phek.

Trakha stressed on the need and importance of developing human resource especially in the rural areas, maintaining that Nagaland has immense potential in eco-tourism.

Delivering a short speech, Lhiwepelo Ritse, Chairman, Village Council, Pfiitseromi village, thanked the Department of tourism and Nagaland Tourism Association for their initiative in reaching out to train the youth and equip them.

The resource persons-Kejaroko Pieru, proprietor of Pier Tours, Veshehu Kezo, proprietor of Tribal Odessey and Vimeto Vakha, president of Nagaland Tourism Association, spoke on the topics Tourism Potentials in Nagaland, Tour Guiding as a profession and Homestay as a business respectively.

The programme concluded with a practical session by taking village walk wherein the trainees were taught how to engage visitors and tourists in doing commentaries, activities and sightseeing.
