Kohima, January 15 (MExN): The training programme for nodal officers of Departments and Directorates by State level master trainers for launching of Voter Awareness Forum (VAF) was held on January 15 at Hotel Japfü Kohima.
According to a DIPR report, briefing the participants, Chief Electoral Officer, Abhijit Sinha, IAS said that election is the most important thing in a democracy which should be ethical and informed for which the ECI has decided that every organization of government or private should have Voters Awareness Forum(VAF) under the chairmanship of Departmental Head.
One Nodal officer with five to six executive members, an informal forum should be formed for generating discussions and awareness around the electoral process with an aim to spread voter awareness and facilitate voter education.
He also informed that in view of the impending general election 2019 it is proposed to run an intensive campaign appealing to the citizens and political parties in the State or UTs to search and verify their names in the electoral rolls. He informed the officers to be sure that their names find place in electoral rolls as one would be able to exercise his or her vote in elections only if one is enrolled in the existing electoral roll.
Adding that the Campaign is christened as "Voters Verification and Information Programme (VVIP), verification of names in Photo Electoral Roll (PER) will be an important activity of the VAF. He informed the voters to go on National Voters Services Portal (www.nsvp.in) to check their elector details of names and Epic etc. And to call Toll Free 1950 for election related issues. He also said that an EPIC holder will be entitled to vote at an election, only if his name exists in the current electoral roll and urged the electors to apply for registration in the electoral roll for exercising voting right.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer, N. Moa Aier and Deputy CEO, Vekho Vero highlighted the Calendar of activities, Voter Verification and information programme and the roles and responsibilities of the VAF. The master trainers for the Training were Associate professor, Kohima College Keneilesa and Wozhamo Research Associate SCERT. Programmer Kitoka presented a power point presentation on Registration and Name Check.
