Dimapur, March 2 (MExN): ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre held a three-day training on ‘rain water harvesting and its utilization’ organised under ‘National initiative for Climate Resilient Agriculture NICRA’ project from February 18 to 20 at training hall of KVK-Dimapur.
The inaugural function was graced by Dr. C. Rajkhowa, Director, NRC on Mithun as the chief guest. The chief guest briefed about the importance of collection of rainwater for using during lean period. Dr Dibyendu Chatterjee, Scientist (Soil Science) conveyed the welcome address followed by the release of training manual by the chief guest. Christy BK Sangma delivered vote of thanks. All together 20 farmers from Domokhia, Ruzaphema, Kukidilong, Maova and Dhansiripar participated in this training.
The three-day training consisted of two technical sessions and one practical session. The resource persons for the technical session were Z. James Kikon, Dr. Dibyendu Chatterjee, Christy B.K. Sangma, Dr. L.J. Bordoloi, Dr. Pulakabha Chowdhury, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Ray, Dr. Rakesh Kumar and Rukuosietuo Kuotsu.
During the practical session, the participants visited different water harvesting structures at KVK-Dimapur Farm, ICAR Research Farm and Instructional Farm, Land Resource Department, Ruzaphema. There was also a hands on practical class on construction of Jalkund. The farmers acquired diversified knowledge on rooftop water harvesting, ferro-cement tank, micro irrigation and many more, which may open some entrepreneurship options for them in future.
