Training on registration of birth and death

Peren, March 1 (DIPR): Economics & Statistics department, Peren organised an intensive training on registration of birth and death for the ASHAs under NRHM in villages on February 25 at Peren town women welfare hall.

DSO Peren, A. Chubathung, who chaired the training, highlighted the practical difficulties faced by the department, for which he asked ASHAs to aid in the exercise as informants.
Presenting the opening remarks, Assistant Director, Economics & Statistics, Neisatuo Puro said that a simple entry of data and paper works at the village level could have a lasting impact for planning at the centre. He further said that it is compulsory and legal as per the Act. He encouraged the ASHAs to be active and maintain records of all stillbirths etc in Nagaland. Along with the nodal department for registration of births and deaths in the economics & Statistics department, he said that cooperation from all quarters is required for the successful implementation of the programme. He also gave a brief background of the functioning of registration of births and deaths in the state level and district level as well.

Statistical Officer, Nyushotho Nyuthe presented an overview of registration of births and deaths. He said that the two most important events in life being birth and death, one should not ignore it. He explained in details the practical aspects of filling up of forms, maintenance of records and statistics and duties of the ASHAs to help in registration of birth.
