Training on rice production technology held

Dimapur, April 3 (MExN): A five-day skill development training programme on Production Technology of Rice for higher productivity and income was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema from March 17 to 21 at Training Hall of KVK Longleng.  

During the training programme, different topics of improved cultivation practices of jhum rice as well as lowland rice were covered. Some of the topic desired by the farmers like crop diversification and large cardamom based agro-forestry system were also covered.  

Videos of different topics like vermicompost production technology, insect management and also production technology of other crops (vegetables) were shown to farmers. Resource person of the training programme Dr. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), E. Lireni Kikon, SMS (Plant protection), K. Lily Rangnamei, SMS (Hort.) and A. Namei, SRF.  

During the discussion, Dr. Kumar advised farmers to go for settle agriculture from jhum agriculture through terrace making, bio-terracing and other practices which is suitable for Longleng condition.  

Input materials such as pre-emergence (Pretilachlor, butachlor) weedicides, post emergence (Bispyribac-Na, 2,4 D sodium salt) weedicides, neem oil, soybean and rice seed were distributed to the farmers. Farmers showed keen interest during entire training programme and some farmers came forward for terrace making in their jhum field.  

All together 32 farmers from eight different villages viz., Hukphang, Lingtak, Pongching, Orongkong, Bhumnyu, Mongtikang, Nyang and Sakshi participated in the five-day skill development training programme.
