Dimapur, July 7 (MExN): A two day state level training programme on appropriate technologies for sustainable production of oil palm was inaugurated by D. Soukhrie, Director of Agriculture.
In his speech, he briefed on the implementation of oil palm development programme in six districts (Dimapur, Peren, Wokha, Longleng, Mon and Mokokchung) of Nagaland. He requested the participants to utilize the expertise of resource persons from ICAR- Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research, Andhra Pradesh.
L. Hangshing, Deputy Director chaired the inaugural session and briefed on the importance of oil palm in Nagaland. He also stressed on the importance of the training programme to the District officials who are implementing NMOOP Scheme.
Bendangternsu, Principal IETC & Director SAMETI, the guest of honour, interacted with the participants.
In the technical session, L. Hangshing spoke on scope and status of oil palm development in Nagaland. Dr. K. Ramachandrudu, Principal Scientist, IIOPR delivered lectures on oil palm planting and plantation management, Intercrops in oil palm and Irrigation management in oil palm. Dr. M. V. Prasad, Principal Scientist, IIOPR delivered lectures on Nutrient management in oil palm, Pest and disease management in oil palm and Harvesting of oil palm Fresh Fruit Bunches.
Scientist explained the recommended practices through power point presentations. Literatures were distributed to the trainees. Participants also clarified doubts on oil palm cultivation.
A total of 45 officers from six districts participated in the programme. On July 8, these officers will be taken to oil palm nursery and oil palm plantations to demonstrate the technologies. The valedictory of the training will be held on July 8 with Rongseninla, Additional Director of Agriculture as the chief guest.
