Training on sustainable water conservation practices held

Wokha, November 22 (MExN): Training on sustainable water conservation practices in crop production under PMKSY for the period 2015-16 was held on November 16 at SDO (Sc) office, Bhandari Town. Keeping in mind the vision of extending the coverage of irrigation ‘Har Khet Ko Pani’ and the objective of PMKSY of ‘More crop per drop’, the training was conducted by ATMA Bhandari Block and sponsored by ATMA, Wokha.  

The resource person, Chumbeni Odyuo, SDO (Sc) cum BTT Convener, Bhandari Block, imparted the training on relevant topics with reference to the local area and needs. The topics included bamboo drip irrigation, pitcher irrigation, and water harvesting pond, canal irrigation, mulching and Zabo System of Irrigation. The farmers were encouraged to use locally available resources to conserve water in situ in their field and to promote irrigated cultivation by employing even indigenous methods. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Khyothungo Ezung, SMS, ATMA Bhandari Block.  

Field day at Integrated Farm School

On November 17, field day was held at Integrated Farm School, Bhandari Town conducted by ATMA Bhandari Block and sponsored by ATMA, Wokha. During the programme, the farm school teacher, Daniel Yanthan shared about his ongoing cultivation and future prospects in his farm. The resource person Chumbeni Odyuo, SDO (Sc) cum BTT Convener, Bhandari Block discussed topics relevant to integrated farming. The topics included crop rotation, mulching, intercropping, strip cropping and multitier cropping. Further, proper land planning and space utilization was encouraged in the course of discussion for the benefit of farmers.
