A two-day training under Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS) Sub-Schemes on Forest and Forest Product in Nagaland, Time Use Survey in Nagaland and Income Disparity in Nagaland commenced today in the Conference Hall of Directorate of Economics & Statistics Kohima.
The training is being attended by 55 District Statistics Officers (DSOs) and field staff of the department for the conduct of three surveys which will end on November 30.
The survey on Forest and Forest Product is to find the value for GSDP estimation; Time Use Survey is to get details on how one spends time for day to day activities while the third survey on income disparity will find the discrepancy of income between districts.
Akunu S Meyase, Secretary to Government of Nagaland, Economics & Statistics and P&AR, delivering the inaugural address said the three surveys are to be conducted simultaneously and therefore hoped that the training would help the surveyors on the best possible way of data collection.
She impressed upon the trainees on having the survey and honest collection of data saying that the data collected on the ground forms the basis of all the decisions to be taken by the government, line-departments, researchers and others.
Therefore, the data collected has to be very true and honest, Meyase said.
Remarking that for long data collection in Nagaland has been a nightmare, she hoped that this image will change with data collected reflecting accuracy and reality.
Neidilhou Keditsu, Director, DE&S delivering a short speech said it is the right time for data collection and therefore the training is being conducted.
Saying that DE&S has conducted many surveys and has collected reliable data, he appreciated the officials of the department for their effort.
“We are among the front runners when it comes to statistics and data collection in the country,” he said.
The three surveys are very important and the district officers and field staff should be able to collect reliable and accurate data to have an accurate policy planning, he said.
Keditsu urged the DSO and statistical officers to sincerely collect the data as such a survey would be a vital source for planning and policy making decisions towards having a developed nation.
Charles N Kikon, Additional Director gave an overview of the survey, saying this is the last leg of training under SSS Sub-Schemes.
