Training underway for urban ASHAs in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, April 11 (MExN): Five-day training of urban Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) on module 6 & 7 under National Health Mission began at IDSP hall, Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung on April 11.  

The training, which concludes on April 15, will cover topics on home based newborn care (HBNC), role of ASHAs, essential skills of ASHAs etc.  

The resource persons for the training are Chubala, State ASHA Nodal Officer, Achiba, Divisional Assistant from the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima, and Achila DPHNO from CMO office, Mokokchung.  

During the inaugural programme, Dr. SS Akaba Longchar, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mokokchung encouraged the ASHAs to learn their responsibilities during the training period and utilise the knowledge for the benefit of the community, informed a press release received here. He also urged the ASHAs to create awareness on health, including providing information to the community on nutrition, hygiene and sanitation etc. Meanwhile, the CMO thanked the resource persons and ASHAs for giving their time despite busy schedule.  

Chubala in her short introduction speech welcomed all the participants. ASHAs are local women trained to act as health educators and promoters in their communities.
