Training on utilization of soil and land resource held

Kohima, January 24 (MExN): Soil & Land Use Survey of India (SLUSI) in collaboration with Soil and Water Conservation Department, Kohima organized three days short course training programme from January 18 to 20 at the Directorate of Soil and Water Conservation Conference Hall, Kohima.  

The training is aimed towards development of trained manpower for effective utilization of soil and land resource database for Integrated Watershed Management Plan. About 25 trainees of field officers and field staff took part in this training programme.  

T. Nungsang Ao, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Department of Soil & water Conservation graced as chief guest, stated a press release received here. The training programme started with a brief welcome address by E. James, Joint director, Department of Soil & Water Conservation. Dr. S. Roy Chowdhury, Head and soil Survey Officer, SLUSI Kolkata centre described the need and objective of the training programme.  

The training programme covered the different aspects of soil survey using remote sensing and GIS technique and use of soil and land resource data base for catchment area treatment including one day field trip on soil profile study at Phesama village.  

The training concluded on January 20 after distributing certificates to the trainees. Imkongneken Ao, Director, Soil & Water Conservation Department gave the valedictory speech.
