NPCC calls government move insensitive to Christian sentiments
DIMAPUR, APRIL 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed disapproval of the state government’s decision to issue official transfer orders on Sunday, April 13, which coincided with Palm Sunday, a significant day in the Christian calendar.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the NPCC called attention to two specific notifications from the Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms (Personnel ‘A’ Branch) that were released on Sunday.
“The two notifications issued... sets a worrying precedent as this is the first time transfer orders have been issued on a Sunday in our state since it attained statehood in 1963,” the NPCC stated.
The party said it found the timing of the orders particularly objectionable given that April 13 was Palm Sunday. “The fact that the day also happened to be Palm Sunday, a day that holds huge religious and cultural importance for Christians all over the world lends the government's move all the more insensitive,” the statement added.
Urging the government to reconsider its approach, the NPCC called for sensitivity and religious respect in governance. “NPCC urges the State Government to act with more empathy, and not allow the governance of Nagaland to be influenced by Hindutva ideology or the policies of the RSS, which are far removed from the beliefs and values of the Naga people,” it stated.
The NPCC called upon the government to “withdraw or review the said notifications and ensure that such actions do not become a trend.”
