Peren, December 9 (MExN): The Peace Channel in collaboration with Peace Forum Peren organized a one- day Training of trainers for Peace at Peren Town Baptist Church on December 8 under the theme “Transformed to Transform the Society”.
Dr Deben, facilitating the training, stated that the basic understanding of the word ‘peace’ is essential as foundation to becoming a trainer. While peace is experienced by all, each may differ in defining it as the changing circumstances and context within which each person as man and woman struggle to find peace may differ.
He added that over the years our society has also been changing from the traditional systems and structures mainly due to occupational shifts.
Today, we have different kinds of environment which we have created over the years and newer different layers of society like associations of different professionals and occupations. And each individual and layers of society are trying to seek peace by solving problems that arise there.
He added that peace begins with the self and therefore we should be able to locate measure and define our own experiences of peace. Having said this, the facilitator asked the participants to measure their own level of peace in a scale of 0 to 10 starting from peace at me and myself to people and government levels.
Participants worked in small groups of men and women and presented their scales of peace. Participant’s also defined peace from their lived experiences and reached a shared understanding of how men and women conceive peace.
From the discussion, the participants learned that listening to women's voice was an essential ingredient for building sustainable peace in the family between husband and wife, parents and children, between neighbors, with other tribes and communities, and between different sections of society and between the people and the government.
