Transmissible Venereal Tumour in dogs and its preventive measures

  Veterinary Hospital Kohima Transmissible Venereal tumour (VG) is one of the most commonly occurring and naturally transmissible disease of dogs of either sexes. It is also known as Infectious Sarcoma, Venereal Granuloma or Reticulo-endothelial tumour of dogs that mainly affects the external genetalia of both male and female dogs. Transmissible Venereal Tumour is characterized by reddish cauliflowerlike growth with foul smelling discharge.The outer surface appears ulcerated and inflammed. The disease is transmitted from one infected dog to another healthy dog during mating seasons.   Symptom of VG in Dog 1. Spontaneous bleeding with blood drops from the genetial area. 2. Presence of blood during urination. 3. Foul smell and pus discharge from the genetal area.   Steps for Prevention of Transmissible Venereal Tumour in Dog 1. Kept your pet dog away from stranger dog. 2. Groom and bath your dog at least once a week. 3. Feed well balance nutritious diet. 4. Look out for any pus discharge or secretion in your dog. 5. Kept the dog house always clean, dry and airy.   The dog owner should immediately consult a Veterinarian or visit the nearest Veterinary Health Centre in case your dog is showing any of the above mention signs and symptom for early detection and proper treatment.
