Treatment literacy on viral hepatitis in Pfütsero held

Phek, July 12 (MExN): ARK Foundation in collaboration with Light Way Society (LWS) and with support from the NHM conducted a treatment literacy workshop and voluntary screening for HBV and HCV in the office of the Light Way Society, Pfütsero on July 12.

A press note received here stated that Vesusayi Tetseo, Project Director, LWS delivered the opening remarks by exhorting the gathering on the importance of viral hepatitis awareness, and to know one's own status. 

The main speaker, Ketho Angami, President, ARK Foundation, highlighting on viral hepatitis said that there are different types of viral Hepatitis namely HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV, and HEV. Out of these the two strain of Viral Hepatitis B and C are considered lethal if left untreated. “Therefore it is important to know one's status so as to prevent and/or seek treatment,” he stated. 

He also spoke on the routes of transmission, signs and symptoms, test, diagnosis and treatment. He oriented the participants on the step by step procedures of all the treatment aspect, and informed them that treatment is free of cost.

However, lamenting that there is no such proper facility in Pfütsero Town, anyone of a known antibody reactive and a viral load detectable status should travel to Phek District Hospital or Kohima NHAK to avail the treatment.

Meanwhile, he also clarified some misconceptions about the transmission and said that it does not transmit through mosquito bites, or sweats, sharing of clothes or through physical contacts.

A voluntary testing for both HBV and HCV was also conducted.
