Power supply to the designated District COVID-19 Hospital, Dimapur was disrupted after a huge eucalyptus tree fell on Saturday afternoon. The falling tree missed hitting three transformers meant for the hospital and the surrounding neighbourhood, but brought down distribution paraphernalia connected to the transformers.

According to a DIPR report, the tree fell in between the residential quarters of the Medical Superintendent and the generator station damaging external lines and poles. While informing that the Power department was immediately alerted, the report said that restoration work started by Power personnel “on war footing.”

A Power official told The Morung Express that the transformers, including a newly installed 500 Kva and two 250 Kva, were not damaged. He said that restoration was going on at a fast pace and atleast two transformers would be brought into circuit by tonight.

As of 9:00pm, it was informed that it would take around two hours to restore supply from two transformers. Meanwhile, the hospital was being supplied by the in-house backup generator.
