Kohima, June 24 (MExN): A tree fodder plantation camp was organized at Thipuzumi Village under National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) on June 24.
Ligneous plants are an important component of the fodder resources for livestock and wildlife. Their main role is to serve as a supplement to the natural flora for feeding livestock, especially during the driest part of the year.
For native tho-tho cattle, mithun and goat these plants are important as browse plants and can be utilized for bio-fencing as well. With the objective in view altogether 1500 saplings of Wild cherry (Prunus spp.), Wild apple (Malus sylvestris ) and Ficus (Ficus hookeri) were planted in the Rihuba area of Thipuzumi Village.
The member of Village Climate Risk Management Committee (VCRMC) of the project assisted in motivating and mobilizing the farmers and youth of the village to participate in the camp. Twenty five youth participated in plantation of the saplings in the village and in the designated livestock range. The camp was led by Dr Debojyoti Borkotoky, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), KVK Phek, Potsulu Theluo, Senior Research Fellow and Rovilhounuo, Project Scientist.
The camp concluded with words of gratitude from Savehu Khamu, Head Teacher for the noble service to enrich the livestock health and wildlife habitat.
