TUENSANG, MAY 15 (MExN): Nokchasashi, NCS, Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang inaugurated the two-day Tribal Artisans Mela on May 15 at Town Hall Tuensang. The Mela was organized by Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development of India Ltd (TRIFED) in collaboration with District Administration Tuensang.
The DC Tuensang thanked the Ministry of Tribal Affairs GOI for organizing such events which is first in the District. He stated that in general terms, handicrafts and handlooms are mainly based at the village level in Nagaland, and such Melas bring opportunities to the local artisan not only to showcase their work but also to open a window of opportunity to sell their products worldwide.
He further added that being in Tuensang District, the ‘Land of Culture,’ helps the artisan to preserve their cultural identity and also promote their products through marketing linkages.
In the function, short speeches were delivered by Lotus Sangtam, SHG representative and Nagendra Nath Jah SM, TRIFED Minister of Tribal Affairs, and the vote of thanks was given by Asif, Senior Programme Officer, TRIFED.
