MoS for Tribal Affairs attends cultural event at Chuchuyimlang Village

Agriculture and animal husbandry part of life of tribal community and they are culturally linked to agriculture, the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Sudarshan Bhagat said today.
The minister who was in Agriculture Ministry before his recent appointment was speaking at a civic reception programme held at Anü Mai Amphitheatre, Chuchuyimlang Village in Mokokchung District.
Observing the cultural extravaganza presented in his honours, Bhagat said, “I belong to a tribal community. We could see in the cultural programmes how we are linked to our tradition. This should continue.” He also lauded the Naga’s rich culture, tradition and hospitality.
Bhagat further informed that the Tribal Affairs Ministry is implementing many schemes with a vision to remove poverty among the tribal community.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concern about rural, tribal and poor people and more than 100 programmes and schemes are launched to uplift the rural people through the State government, he maintained.
“Take advantage of all the schemes through the district administration and state authority,” he said.
“When we celebrate 75th anniversary of Quit India Movement (1942) in the coming 5 years, the income of farmers should double,” he added.
The minister also noted that comparatively Nagaland is more advanced in education than many other states.
However, he said government schools are lacking in certain areas when compared with private schools.
Kendriya Vidyalaya model schools are open to meet these challenges, Bhagat informed adding that the nation will not progress till people are educated and literate.
“Our ministry is laying more focus on education by launching various schemes and providing facilities free of cost,” he added.
The Union Minister came to Chuchuyimlang after visiting a Tribal Ministry’s sponsored residential school at Tizit in Mon district along with Advisor to Chief Minister for Planning, C M Chang. Nuklutoshi Longkumer Advisor to Chief Minister Food & Supplies also attended the programme.
Currently on a maiden three-day visit to Nagaland, Bhagat arrived in Dimapur on October 4.
