DIMAPUR, JAN 17 (MExN): Pointing out that Konyaks and Tangkhuls are not enemies as some people may assume, senior NSCN (IM) Kilonser Tongmeth Wangnao in an effort to placate the rising anger of the Konyak public in the aftermath of the killing of two youths in Kohima on January 13 stated that as far as cases and issues including cases of killings are concerned, it should be put up to the concerned Court of the concerned government. “If anyone had executed acts without proper directive or based on insufficient concrete reasons that case is to be taken up by the Court of the concerned government, adjudicating the matter-case judiciously even if it may involve any length of time”, Tongmeth stated in a press communiqué received here.

In this regard, the Kilonser stated that if any person (s) is found guilty of crime, he or she has to be punished in accordance to the laws of the land. “But to profess, speak or write on tribal lines gives the opportunity and advantage to our adversaries to divide the Naga family and rule over us”, Tongmeth cautioned and advised for “restrain” and to avoid being swayed by divisive elements out “to destruct the Naga social fabric”. Further the Kilonser pointed out that people “should not be carried away by hasty and impulsive assumptions without proper evaluation”.

The Kilonser also disclosed that he had heard of the unfortunate news of the two Konyak boys while attending the three days fasting and reconciliation course at the Council Head Quarters. “This incident occurred in the ill-fated morning of January 13, 2007 prior to the ‘Peace & Reconciliation’ declaration by the Yaruiwo on that evening after the conclusion of the fasting program, regrettably”, Tongmeth informed. He also informed that Isak Chishi Swu had declared peace and reconciliation among all the Nagas and issued a directive to all the Naga Army Unit to maintain maximum offensive restraint unless provoked or attacked.
