Dear Countrymen,

Today as we observe Naga Martyrs Day to commemorate our patriots who had sacrificed their lives for our Naga Nation. 66 years ago, on 18th. October, 1952, a Naga Judge, Zasibito Nagi of Jotsoma Village was killed in cold blood by the Indian armed forces in the heart of Kohima town while he was among a peaceful public rally against India. Ever since till date, thousands of Naga patriots were martyred. The suffering and loss of lives left no Region of Nagaland lesser but due to unceasing pressures of enemy forces, our people are unable to give due respect and honour in appropriate manner as they deserved. However this year, in spite of the odds, formal gatherings for prayer and honouring services are being held here at Chedema, in Angami Region and Phek and Chizami in Chakhesang Region to pay respect to all Martyrs. They lived in the love of God given Nagaland and sacrificed for the cause of Nagaland that we may live happy and prosperous lives. They had clear vision and determination that Nagaland should not be ruled by foreign occupation. They were true warriors, truthful and honest in responsibilities, sincere and love their nation and leave no blemish by hurting or killing any none combatant civilian of the enemy. Thus they were the true soldiers of the Nation. Their names will remain in the annals of Naga history. Nagaland had fought intense war with India for nearly ten years (1955-1964) till an international ceasefire agreement was signed between the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) and Government of India (GOl) in 1964. The Federal Government of Nagaland maintain and honours its commitment continue the policy of non-violence. And in peace seeks to resolve the Ind° -Naga conflict mutually, if not, through international forum. Either way, the time is approaching for us to be prepared. Meanwhile, it is my appeal that our people maintain calm and tolerance yet be prepared for the imminent to raise the 'Naga Voice' which was spoken aloud by the declaration of Independence on August 14th, 1947 and May, 16, 1951 Naga voluntary plebiscite that Nagaland will remain independent. May God bless Nagaland.
