Tributes pour in for Nagaland sitting MLA Imtiwapang

Kohima, January 7 (MExN): Dr Imtiwapang Aier, MLA, 23 Impur AC and former Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly passed away in Dimapur on January 7 after a brief illness.

Dr Imtiwapang Aier was elected to the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in February, 2013 and was appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary for Geology and Mining and later elected as the Speaker of the NLA on 21st March, 2017 and held the Office till 5th February, 2018. He was re-elected to the 13th NLA and a sitting Member representing the 23-Impur AC.

Mourning his demise, Governor of Assam and Nagaland, Chief Minister of Nagaland and several others have conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed soul. 

Governor: Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Governor of Assam and Nagaland said Dr Imtiwapang was an able and dynamic leader committed to the welfare and upliftment of the people. His demise is an irreparable loss to the people of the State. The contribution as a great leader and statesman in the service of the highest ideals will remain a legacy and inspiration to many.

“I on behalf of the people of Nagaland and on my own behalf convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray that God bestow fortitude to bear this tragic loss and grant solace at this hour of bereavement,” the Governor stated. 

CM: CM Neiphiu Rio said that Dr Imtiwapang was a young, dynamic and promising public leader.

“In these past few years of working together, I found him to be someone who was always passionate about his work and executed his assignments diligently. He was a sincere and hardworking person. He had an excellent academic record as well, and had gone on to obtained a Ph.D in Geology. He was a jovial and a humble gentleman with a big heart, who cared much for society's welfare. Indeed, he was an inspiration to many youngsters,” Rio stated. 

His demise is a great loss for the State in general and Impur Constituency in particular, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone. Though he is no longer in our midst, his good deeds will always shine and his memories will forever be inscribed in our hearts. 

NLA Speaker: Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, NLA said Dr Imtiwapang was a distinguished writer and a man of vision who was sincere to the core. He was looked upon as a leader with a devoted sense of service to the State and its people. 

During his time as the Speaker, he has done many things for the welfare of the Officers and Staff of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Longkumer stated.

Dy CM: Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton described Dr Imtiwapang as a young and brilliant Academician turned politician who served the state and its people with sincerity. His death at such a young age is a great loss for the people and absence will be felt dearly. On behalf of the state BJP legislators, the Dy CM conveyed to condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the departed to rest in eternal peace.

Ao Senden: The Ao Senden He was a young, dynamic and visionary leader who always envisioned and worked for the common Naga cause and upliftment of the Naga people. His demise has left a huge vacuum in the Naga political arena which will be difficult to fill. 

Ex-PAN: “He was one of the perfect gentleman and always humble towards the grassroot people. He was always willing to take part in solving the problems of the citizens. With his death, the State has lost a true Statesman and Leader,” stated Ex-Parliamentarian in a condolence message.

CNSA: Central Naga Students’ Association (CNSA) said “Nagaland has lost an irreplaceable leader. His faithfulness, his dedication, always being there to help and his generosity were rare qualities that distinguished him from other leaders. He was someone who always supported the cause of the Central Nagas and was always there to lend a hand whenever we required any assistance.”

Neiba Kronu: Nagaland Planning & Co-ordination, Land Revenue & Parliamentary Affairs, said Dr Imtiwapang was a young and dynamic leader who always work for the welfare of the society passionately and executed his assignments diligently, Kronu stated in a condolence message received here.

Advisor Tovihoto: Advisor for Power, H Tovihoto Ayemi said that Dr Longkumer was was a well educated and promising Naga public leader and served the people with commitment and enthusiasm. His contribution towards the well-being of the people of his constituency and the state at large is notable. His demise has left a huge void in Naga society which will be difficult to fill, he added. 

NDPP: Chingwang Konyak, President, NDPP in a condolence message said that Dr Imtiwapang was an efficient legislator who dedicated himself to the welfare of his constituency in particular and the Nagaland in general. 
His sincerity and devotion has led him to hold many key positions within the NLA and outside and had also served as the Speaker of NLA. His demise is a loss, not just to the people of his constituency and the NLA but is a great loss to the Nagas in general, in his demise the Nagas as a whole has lost a dynamic and young leader.
“The rank and file of NDPP joins me in conveying our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the members of the bereaved family,” he stated. 

NPCC: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K Therie stated that Dr Imtiwapang Aier entered the Nagaland Legislative Assembly when he was in the Congress. 

“We have seen his patience and tolerance as the Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly. He was a dynamic leader who yet had much to contribute to Naga society through his able leadership. His passing away is an irreparable loss not only to the family and community in particular but to the state in general,” Therie stated adding, “the rank and file of NPCC joins me in conveying our deep heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.” 

NPF Leader: MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, leader of NPF Legislature Party and Co-chairman UDA, Government of Nagaland said, “It was never expected that he will leave us too soon, being young and energetic leader Dr Imtiwapang was always considered a true statesmen and a humble leader who was always on a jolly mood whenever we encounter one another. I remember him as a fine gentleman who always shows his concern and upliftment for the society,” Azo said.

“Though, it was such tragic news that such a young leader has left us, his good deeds and the inspiration he left behind will be always remembered and cherished by our future generation,” he added.
