Shillong, November 27 (MExN): The North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) stated that the university has violated important provisions of Statutes and practices of the University. As a mark of protest, the NEHUTA has appealed to all the teachers of the University to boycott the convocation to be held on November 28. A press statement issued by NEHUTA President Professor XP Mao and General Secretary Dr P Biswas stated that court meetings have not been held for the last three years. “Court meetings, as per section 19 (2) (a) and (b) of NEHU Act, 1973, are to be held for approval of annual accounts, budget and annual audit reports- which, then are to be submitted to the Parliament of India”, the press release stated. The University court, the highest statutory authority of the University has been bypassed by the present VC. The statement claimed that there have been many discrepancies in the university administration including “pick and choose promotion”, health clinic, quarter allotment and non disclosure of executive council meeting minutes and others. The notification along with the detailed program of the convocation should be given four weeks ahead of the convocation as per statutory provisions which was not followed. Given these serious violations of act, statute and ordinances of the University, the NEHUTA sought a response from the Vice-Chancellor but the VC failed to respond. The NEHUTA, concerned about grave violations of established practices of the University, appealed to the teachers to boycott the convocation to be held on November 28.
