Chief Minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu today said that Naga People’s Front (NPF) being one of the biggest and oldest regional political parties in the State is bound to witness differences.

Maintaining that trust can overcome all such differences, he however said “trust is not a request but has to be earned and proven.” Addressing the NPF Central Executive Council meeting here, Dr. Shürhozelie, who is also the NPF president, expressed that trust is very important in a political party and it is not to be spoken but felt.

“NPF being the oldest regional party in the State, our party has a clear stand and we stand firm on it and continue to remain firm, and therefore this is the only viable regional political party in the State,” he asserted.

The CM therefore called upon party leaders not to indulge in distrust and suspicions. “We are all aware that there is no other alternative political party in Nagaland… Congress era is over and no chance to come back to power, BJP is in power in Delhi but here they are our alliance,” he said urging the party leaders to work towards strengthening the party.

Accepting that in the past differences had cropped up, he said those are all over as the NPF dissidents have already formed new party and it is a clear case and no more confusion exists. Therefore, we must ensure that NPF march from strength to strength and bring the party back to power, he added.

On Naga political issue, the CM was hopeful that something good would be achieved out of the ongoing dialogue.

“Nagas have already suffered a lot and we don’t want our future to face the same and therefore NPF has been advocating for solution of the Naga issue and our stand will continue till it is achieved,” he asserted.

Further, he acknowledged the party legislators and leaders for reposing their faith on him to lead the government while on his part affirmed to reciprocate by upholding the party principle and decisions in taking it forward.

Former Chief Minister and DAN Chairman, TR Zeliang emphasized on the need for the party and Government to remain together so as to survive and move ahead in unity, lest face the downfall.

He also called upon the party leaders not to give importance to false rumours as it would create trust deficit within themselves. Stating that the challenge ahead for NPF is immense, he said the biggest challenge is to build up the trust and achieve true reconciliation to take the party forward. “Let us believe and trust each other without any suspicion but let us move ahead with the spirit of unity,” Zeliang appealed.

He also rubbished the rumour doing the round that he is going to join the BJP. Zeliang said till today no one has contacted him to join the BJP. “I have no intention to join BJP,” he stated.

Minister for National Highway and Political Affairs G. Kaito Aye, Minister for Rural Development & REPA C.L. John, Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Imkong L. Imchen, Minister for Health & Family Welfare P. Longon and Awangbou Newmai, Parliamentary Secretary, Government of Manipur also spoke at the meeting.
