‘Tseminyu district is legitimate right of Rengmas’

Rengma Hoho reiterates demand for new district in Nagaland

Tseminyu, November 13 (MExN): The Rengma Hoho, during its general session held at its head quarter, Tseminyu on November 9, reiterated its stand on the demand for Tseminyu district and appealed to the state government to consider its demand at the earliest.

The Rengma Hoho in a press statement issued by its President, Kenyuseng Tep and General Secretary, Thonchilo Kath said, “Tseminyu to become a district is long overdue and the state government should consider the demand respecting our rights.”

The Hoho felt the Rengmas were neglected since the inception of the statehood and has been sidelined from all reforms - administratively, economically and on decisions of the government, Rengmas are been hit by injustice in every successive government decision since statehood was granted.

“Rengmas were left behind others in all fronts due to the negative attitude of the state government towards the Rengma community,” it stated while reminding the government that “whatever status the Nagas are in today and all fruition of development enjoyed by the citizens, Rengmas have its contribution in it.”

The Hoho maintained that “statehood was granted through political agreement and Rengmas’ active participation on all stages of Naga political movement and development which enabled for the statehood, cannot be ignored. Rengmas should be given equal respect like any other tribe and should be allowed to grow and develop on the same foot of others. Nagas cannot grow sensibly until and unless justice is delivered equally for a comprehensive growth for a vibrant society.”

Further, Rengma Hoho reiterated its stand that “Tseminyu district is a legitimate right of the Rengmas and we believe the government is fully aware that the Rengmas were in disadvantage for too long.”

Meanwhile, the Hoho expressed full confidence on the PDA Government under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio that the demand of the Rengma for Tseminyu district will be granted without further delay. The Hoho requested MLAs, irrespective of political parties to consciously support the demand of the Rengmas.

“More than 50 years of negligence to the Rengmas is too long enough and if Rengmas were to be discriminated further there is no greater injustice than this,” the Hoho added.
