Tseminyu: RSZ, RSU to resume blockade in case of inaction

Tseminyu, January 5 (MExN): The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) and the Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) have warned of resuming the temporarily suspended blockade at “any time” in case of inaction from the state government.

While asserting its firm committed to its resolution for indefinite bandh till the Tseminyu District demand is met, the two bodies in a joint statement on Friday said that it had “harkened” to the call of the Rengma Hoho for temporary suspension of the bandh “on humanitarian grounds to enable temporary relief to the public”.

Consequently, the Rengma Hoho’s decision for temporary suspension of the bandh was put into effect by the two organizations with effect from 8:00 am on January 5, the statement informed.

Although the Hoho’s move to suspend the blockade was met with “much displeasure and disappointment” to the hundreds of protesting volunteers, the two organizations spearheading the indefinite bandh was able to disburse the volunteers after a brief gathering at the Rengma Hoho Office complex, the statement added.

It was reiterated during the brief gathering of the resolution that the youth shall not stop its agitation until its demand for Tseminyu district is fulfilled.

However, the two organizations warned of lifting the temporary suspension and resuming the bandh “at any time and take further course of necessary action in case of inaction in appropriate time or unsatisfactory action on the part of the government.”

The RSZ and RSU extended its heartfelt appreciation to the various tribal Hohos, Tribal student organizations and civil society for extending their support and solidarity to the cause of the Rengmas.

The two organizations also extended its gratitude to the Naga public for their cooperation and support rendered in the demand for Tseminyu district.

Meanwhile, commuters passing through Tseminyu early Friday morning were initially refused passage by volunteers owing to some confusion. However, the passengers were let go and no untoward incident was reported.
