Nineteen-year-old Tsurila Yim, a second semester BA Economics from St. Joseph College Jakhama, was crowned Miss Yimchungrü in the first Miss Yimchungrü beauty contest held Tuesday night in the evening session of the inaugural day of the golden jubilee celebration of Yimchungrü Akherü Arihako (YAA) at Shamator town public ground.
Hantsula Yim, a 24-year-old MA student from Pungro town and 18-year-old Berela Yim, a class XII student hailing from Moya village, also under Pungro Sub-division, emerged first and second runners-up respectively.
Daughter of Yantsumong of Penkim village under Pungro Sub-division in Kiphire district, the fair beauty from a warrior tribe aspires to become a chartered accountant or, walk the modeling ramp.
The newly-crowned Yimchungrü queen who was also crowned Miss Yimchungrü Students’ Union Kohima (YSUK) in 2015 said her favourite pastimes are dancing and spending quality time with her close friends.
Asked whether she would follow her “head or heart” when it comes to love and choosing a life partner, the Economics students replied: “I will follow my head because I am a practical person. In the context of the modern world, one has to be practical to forge ahead”, she said.
“Moreover, I no longer believe in fairy tales”, Tsurila added with a sigh.
Judges of the Miss Yimchungrü contest included famed model Ethiel Konyak, Kaisa Akiu and Vineet Jaiswal and K Asang and K Lakiumong were the hosts of the show.
The beauty pageant was graced by director, NEC Pvt Ltd. S Bhattacharya, as chief guest.
