Dimapur, August 3 (MExN): The NSCN/GPRN has alleged the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) for claiming entire Pungro Sub-Division as their Jurisdiction, stating that it is “totally baseless and quite misleading”.
A press note issued by senior national workers of NSCN - Brig (Rtd) Tusangchu, SCM, S Tsulemthong Dy.Secy and Kiusangthong, PRO stated: “The recent claimed of TTC through local dailies have drawn our serious attention to clarify it for once and for all. It is an well known fact that Pungro Sun-Division is inhabited by Chirr, Makory and Longfur and some few Langa Yimchungers which clearly manifests the land ownership of the area.”
It also added that during the "migration stages (dating back to 600-700 yrs)". the vast tract of virgin forest which engulfs the Saramati was untouched by “any human civilization. And like the other Naga tribes, the tribes in quest of fertile land also migrated from different routes and settled in the area”.
But, since advancement of Human civilization took its birth from the western part of the world, our area came to engaged modernity only during the middle part of the 19 century. However, the dawn of modernity brought numerous unfortunate hardships and harassments to our tribes. “Some neighboring advanced tribes, taking the advantage of their know-how tampered our God given identity and started to colonized our area in order to achieve their selfish ends.”
The note further said that in spite of the vast economic potentialities, the area was kept unexplored and neglected for the last four decades (1963-2003). Because of this negligence and “stepmotherly treatment of the successive (State) Government”, the tribes were confused whether the area was under the state of Myanmar or India.
“…the coming of the DAN Govt. into power changed the course of our History by taking seriousness of our grievances which is praise worthy. And it is to be understood that, in-line with these developmental policies the Road Show is being organized at Pungro Town by the State Government (which is purely a developmental issue). Therefore, we, the senior National Workers appeal to all the neighbouring individuals, tribes or organisations to participate in the said programme instead of opposing or hampering the developmental activities,” the note said.
