PEREN, APRIL 11 (MExN): The Tening Town Students’ Union (TTSU) has appealed to the Nagaland state government to address the lack of development and infrastructure in the town, which is a sub-division under Peren district. A press note from the TTSU President, Namsilung Pamai and General Secretary, Doni Newmai stated that, in terms of basic government services and infrastructure, the town “is worse than small villages in some parts of Nagaland.” It slammed that “lackadaisical attitude” of the state government towards the people of Tening sub-division and asserted that “there is a limit to everything.”
The union informed that the road connecting Tening with Peren, Dimapur and Kohima is in a “pathetic condition with no major maintenance or repairing works in the past two decades or more.” It appealed to the MLA for 6-Tening A/C and the department concerned to immediately address this issue on top priority. While acknowledging the MLA for taking up the widening of roads within Tening Town, the union appealed for immediate repair, maintenance and blacktopping of at least a single lane road from Tening to Peren.
The TTSU further extended its support and cooperation to the All Nchangram Students’ Union (ANSU) in demanding better NST bus service for the Tening-Dimapur route at the earliest. It demanded that the NST bus service, running only on alternate days, must be changed to daily to and fro service with immediate effect and with a better bus. The union noted that students are the worst affected, due to irregular bus service and frequent break downs of the bus. “If the prevailing contract system in Peren district is the culprit of the deteriorating NST service as pointed out by ANSU, TTSU demands immediate cancellation of the contract and resume departmental service,” it demanded.
It further cautioned all officers and staff posted at Tening sub-division to remain present in their respective place of posting. The union informed that it would conduct surprise checking on any days. It cautioned that the union would initiate its own course of action against anyone found absent in their place of duty, without sanctioned leaves/genuine reason.
The TTSU said that the people of Tening area have “suffered beyond tolerance due to clear negligence of the government of Nagaland and all concerned departments.” It declared that the union would not remain silent anymore and “will resort to any action to fight for all basic government services for the people of the area and initiate justified action towards any corrupted individual, public leaders or department trying to ignore the sub-division in the days to come.” “The younger generation has woken up with full awareness of their rights and privileges, who cannot be fooled anymore by playing ignoring tactics by the departments’ concerned and public leaders,” it added.
