TTSUD condemns arrest of student by 37 Assam Rifles

Dimapur, July 11 (MExN): The Toulazouma Tenyimi Students’ Union, Dimapur (TTSUD) has ‘vehemently condemned’ the arrest of a student from their area by the 37 Assam Rifles.

“The indecent act of the 37 Assam Rifles is shocking to all the citizens that even after showing the identity that he is a student and on his vacation, the Security Forces did not heed the plea of the student identity and arrested him,” stated the President of TTSUD Veshosü Nyekha and its Speaker Muluneyi Khamo in a press release today.

They informed that on July 8, around 4:00am, a group of personnel from the 37 Assam Rifles, with “full arms and ammunition,” entered and “raided” the house that the arrested student was living in. The Union also affirmed that the student, Relhu Venuh, is pursuing his Master’s degree in Personal Management from the Poona Institute of Management Science & Entrepreneurship, Pune, and was home for a vacation.

While condemning the arrest and appealing to all citizens to condemn the act of the 37 AR, the Union questioned why an “innocent student” and “future leader” of the country was arrested. “The students are not the enemy of the Armed Forces,” the Union maintained, noting how students are not secure in their own land from the people who are “supposed to be our security.”
