DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 5 (MExN): An emergency consultative meeting of stakeholders comprising the office bearers of Chümoukedima Town Youth Organization (CTYO) and Chümoukedima Students’ Union (CSU) at the behest of the Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (TUCT) was held on December 2 to take stock of the prevailing situation in and around Chümoukedima Town.
A press note from the TUCT informed that the meeting expressed concern at reports concerning certain sensitive areas where juvenile boys and girls “loiter around where they easily get narcotic substance and liquor from the regular and habitual bootleggers and peddlers.”
“These areas and joints have become a hotspot for those juveniles where they got hooked and as such committing lots of shameful activities,” the meeting observed, and empowered the youth and student leaders to take appropriate action to eradicate such “illegal and immoral activities.”
“And also many juveniles are seen going out jogging at early dawn (1:00 to 2:00 a.m.) which is quite abnormal and not advisable. So it was resolved not to allow with immediate effect and call upon the parents of such juveniles to discipline for posterity,” the TUCT added.
Meanwhile, the CTYO and CSU were empowered and requested to put a check on sale of gutkha and banned substances in shops, especially in school areas, and banned drugs in pharmacies. They were also empowered to frisk and nab any suspected peddlers of such substances.

The members who attended the meeting expressed shock and anguish over the incident of November 30 at Padum Pukhuri Village wherein one person was assaulted. “We once again condemn such act and call upon the right thinking Nagas to come out united in rooting out such menaces before it’s too late,” the meeting resolution urged.
The House also resolved to request all shopkeepers and buildings, especially facing the National Highway, to decorate their shops with immediate effect and also to keep the shops open till 8:00 pm so as to facilitate the citizens till January 1, 2018.
