Tuensang CSOs reaffirm boycott of Nagaland ULB election

TUENSANG, JUNE 1 (MExN): The Chang Khulei Setshang (Chang Tribal Council) and various local tribal unions in Tuensang reiterated their decision to boycott the upcoming Nagaland State Urban Local Body (ULB) elections during a meeting held on June 1.

The meeting, which took place at the CTS Hall in Tuensang, was attended by representatives from Changsao Thangjam Setshang (CTS), Chang Wedoshi Setshang (CWS), Khiamniungan Union Tuensang Town, Phom Union Tuensang Town, Sangtam Union Tuensang Town, Tikhir Union Tuensang Town, Yimkhiung Union Tuensang Town, All Ward Union Tuensang Town (AWUTT), leaders of 15 wards, and political leaders from local parties.

Participants unanimously decided to continue their abstention from the elections, reaffirming their commitment to the Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organization (ENPO) resolution. This boycott is intended to protest the authorities' failure to meet the long-standing demands of the ENPO.

Despite appeals from political parties to reconsider the boycott, the collective decision of the tribal unions was to uphold their stance, demonstrating unified resentment against the unmet assurances from the authorities.

The reaffirmation for non participation in the upcoming ULB is resolutely reaffirmed in line with the entirety of Eastern Nagaland jurisdiction to show its resentment against the failure of authority to fullfill its assurance on the protracted ENPO demand, stated a press release issued by NY Choba, President, and A Chingmak, Press & Information Secretary, Chang Khulei Setshang.
