The Tuensang District Football Association (TDFA) Cup kicked off at Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground on December 3 under the theme ‘Emulous’ with Kezhaleo Rulho, Class-I Contractor, Kohima as the special guest.
Rulho exhorted the gathering that, “Everybody has their dreams and targets and it cannot be achieved without the blessings of God and His grace. Therefore, give your best with the blessings of God with prayers and worship.”
Earlier, the reception of the special guest was led by the Hauyang Choba Bagpipe Band, Tuensang. The inaugural programme was chaired by Mongshai Longshe and invocation prayer was pronounced by Pastor, Lotha Baptist Church, Tuensang. A welcome address was given by Organizing Committee TDFA meanwhile short speeches were delivered by President, TDFA and W Chingmak, former President, TDFA. A special number was performed by Thungti, TTBL followed by the kick off of the cup by the special guest.
In the first match, Hooligans FC defeated Haülaang FC by the score margin of 2-1. Both teams went into the break without scoring and shortly after the match was resumed Imtichuba of Hooligans scored the first goal in the 47th minute and further extended the lead for his team by scoring his second goal in the 68th minute.
Few seconds before the final whistle, Yemjong B N scored the lone goal for Haülaang in the 79th minute.
In this edition, the champions will pocket a cash amount of Rs 1,00,000 along with trophy, certificates and medals while runners–up will receive Rs 50,000 along with certificates and medals. Best goalkeeper – Rs 2500, best defender – Rs 2500, best midfielder – Rs 2500, highest scorer – Rs 2500 and player of the tournament – Rs 2500.
The TDFA Cup will be played in a knockout format with 16 teams participating altogether. 15 matches will be played with the grand finale to be held on December 12.
The teams participating are Hooligan FC, Haülaang FC, Resilient FC, Naga Brothers FC, Phoenix FC, Winzig Konigz FC, Fusion FC, Vikings FC, Heem Hao FC, Hemshang Saan FC, 11 Wolves FC, Enforcer FC, United Brothers FC, Unido Amigos SC, Rise of Strangers FC and United Comets FC.
