In a significant step towards transparency and accountability, the 3rd Phase Social Audit Public Hearing for the Financial Year 2023-24 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) unfolded at the DRDA Conference Hall in Tuensang town, specifically focusing on the RD Blocks of Longkhim and Chare. The event took place on November 21 last, garnering active participation from various stakeholders.

Chaired by Project Director, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Tuensang, T Achila Quinker, the program aimed to scrutinise and evaluate the implementation of MGNREGS in the specified RD Blocks. Providing a comprehensive introduction to the proceedings, Imlirenla Sanglir, Assistant Director of National Social Security and Assistance Agency (NSSAA), Social Audit Unit Nagaland, set the stage for a thorough examination.

Temjenwapang Jamir, District Resource Person, presented the findings of the social audit. The gathered information was then meticulously reviewed during the public hearing. The village functionaries, crucial components of the grassroots governance structure, assured that necessary actions would be taken based on the audit findings. Resolutions were also passed, signifying a commitment to addressing the highlighted issues and improving the efficiency of MGNREGS in the region.

Representing the District Administration at the hearing, Kudazo Swuro, EAC Tuensang, emphasised the importance of considering the social audit as an opportunity to implement corrective measures. This collaborative approach between government officials and village functionaries reflects a commitment to the continuous improvement of MGNREGS.

The meeting witnessed active participation from various stakeholders, including Block Development Officers (BDOs) and their staff, MGNREGA beneficiaries, village functionaries, and Village Level Organizations (VLO). This diverse representation ensured a holistic discussion and a more nuanced understanding of the ground realities.

The 3rd Phase Social Audit Public Hearing stands as a testament to the commitment of Tuensang District towards ensuring the effective and accountable implementation of MGNREGS. Through open dialogue, constructive feedback, and collaborative efforts, the stakeholders involved aim to enhance the impact of the program and contribute to the overall development of the region.
