A flagging-off ceremony for a new school bus, donated to the students of Tuensang village, was held on August 17 at the Tuensang Village Students’ Union (TVSU) conference hall.

The bus, provided by Imtichoba, MLA for 54 A/C Tuensang Sadar-II, aims to support students who commute to schools several kilometres away.

Imtichoba, who was the special guest at the event, expressed his gratitude to the village community for their support. “With the love and support from my village community, I stand here today as a public servant. It was my prayer before the election that God would provide for this, and I am grateful,” he said. “This bus is a step toward ensuring our students have the opportunities they deserve to excel in their studies.”

The bus donation was prompted by a survey conducted by TVSU, which revealed an increase in student dropouts due to the lack of local high schools and the challenges students face in commuting to schools such as Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Tuensang, Government High School (GHS) Chaba, and GHSS Hakushang, located 3 to 5 kilometres away.

Tochi Imlong, President of TVSU, highlighted the difficulties faced by students, particularly during the monsoon season. “Students arrive at school tired and are unable to focus during the first few periods. This bus will hopefully reduce dropout rates and improve the quality of education for our village students,” Imlong said.

Kushemsangla, a ninth-grade student at GHSS Hakushang, shared his experience, stating, “By the time I reach my classroom, I’m exhausted and unable to concentrate. I believe this bus will make a big difference for us.”

Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, who attended the ceremony, commended Imtichoba for his initiative. “This is a rare approach by the MLA, and even the Chief Minister has appreciated this program,” she said. Rutsa encouraged the community to take ownership of the new asset and continue supporting their elected leaders.

N Kaimang, a representative of the Tuensang Village Council Union, advised the community to remain united and work closely with their leaders to ensure continued progress. “Good counsel and humility will ensure that we continue to achieve great things for our community,” he said.

The programme was chaired by N Nasen Kundang, with Rev T Mongba, Pastor of Tuensang Sang Baptist Lashong, leading the dedication of the new bus. Welcome address delivered by Er Nabum Tombou, Ex-member, TVSU. The ceremony concluded with the official flagging-off of the bus by the MLA and Deputy Commissioner.
