The Tuensang Deputy Commission, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS handed over the Watershed Development Fund account of PMKSY-WDC erstwhile IWMP, batch IV, V & VI to all 45 villages under the project at Town Hall, Tuensang on Thursday.
At the handing over programme, the DC speaking on issues of climate change said that programmes such as PMKSY will help address climate change issue since there are lots of soil and water conservation activities undertaken by the department. He asked the villagers to give priority to asset create by the department during the project duration.
On ecological balance, the DC said that during early days there were lot of resources available for all of us but with population growth there is pressure on the resources and added,” to create balance in all the activities, we undertake so as to be sustainable.” Stressing on land and water resources the DC said, each one of us should take care of our water soil and vegetation otherwise our soil water and springs will dry up and we will not be able to survive. He asked the villagers to make good learning from the department who have implemented PMKSY-WDC in the villagers.
The DC appreciated the Land Resources Department for undertaking various with community to improve the livelihood of villages and also conveyed to the other departments to follow the same inorder to improve the livelihood of the villagers.
Puthuto Natso, DPO Land Resources Tuensang in the keynote address stressed on the importance of exit policy stating that the objective of the department is to let the villagers take care of the asset create for sustainability. He also shared in detail of the exit policy as to how WDF amount should be handled. On behalf of the project villages Koi, Kiumehan, Lima, Chuba and Munow Khiam spoke on the occasion. The programme was chaired by Lipichem APO LRD, Tuensang.
