Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): The ‘accused’ involved in the October 2 incident - where vehicles laden with liquor were confiscated by the Assam Rifles at Tuli, have apologised to MLA Toshipokba and stated that the MLA was not involved. The press note was issued by one Tia “on behalf of the accused”. Yesterday the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) through its Media Cell had alleged that the recent seizure of huge consignment of liquor by 31 Assam Rifles at Tuli on October 2 from 12 vehicles forming part of vehicle convoy belonged to none other than the convoy of NPF MLA from 26 Aonglenden A/C, Toshipokba Longkumer.
The note issued today by the person identified as Tia clarified that on October 2 they were on their way from Dimapur to Mokokchung with liquor laden vehicles and were unfortunately apprehended by Assam Rifles at Tuli.
“We often follow VVIP/VIP convey with utmost care not to be noticed by them. We take full responsibility for this incident and state that the MLA was completely unaware and had no knowledge of our intentions,” they confessed in the note. Also, it stated: “…we are deeply shocked and are regretful for having implicated the name of MLA Toshipokba for no fault of his in this incident. We would like to render our most profound apology to MLA Toshipokba for putting him in this position.”
The press statement from the accused stated that: “We honestly state that being human beings and having family, we have to do certain profession to make a livelihood, so we have been smuggling liquor for the past many years.”
