Tuli Paper Mill: JAC reminds govt of deadline

General meeting of all employees on Nov 9

Dimapur, October 19 (MExN): The Joint Action Committee (Workers’ Union & Pensioners Union) NPPCL has called for a general meeting on November 9 at Tzüdikong, to deliberate on the next course of action in connection with unpaid wages and retirement benefits.

Many of the Nagaland Pulp & Paper Company Limited (NPPCL) commonly known as Tuli Paper Mill workers have not been paid their salaries from August 2017 till today while superannuated employees and employees who died in harness have not received their terminal/retiral/pensionary dues from the month of September 2015.

In a press release  received here on Wednesday, the JAC President A Kika Lenda and Secretary K Imlitemjen Jamir stated that it had proposed a bandh/blockade starting August 12, 2022. However, on August 11, a meeting was held with the Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Shashank Pratap Singh; Department of Industries & Commerce represented by Commisioner & Secretary, Director, Additional Director, Assistant Director (Nodal) and district level departmental officials; Mokokchung Superintendent of Police; SDO (Civil); Ao Senden officials; Langpangkong Tsükong Mongdang officials; and the Vice-Chairman of Tzüdikong Ad-hoc Town Committee; during which “the government had promised to take all possible steps to resolve the issues and requested JAC to postpone the agitation.”

Accordingly, a time-period of three months was agreed upon by the JAC as requested by the house, with the assurance of fulfilling the rightful claims and demands of JAC, the release stated.

However, as the stipulated time-period is nearing its end without any positive signs from the State government, the JAC has been compelled to make this decision to decide on further course of action, it added.

In this connection, the JAC has called on all the employees of NPPCL (retired and existing) residing within and outside of Nagaland to reach the station (NPPCL) Tzüdikong town on before November 8. The meeting will be held on November 9 at the Main Gate Complex (NPPCL), Tzüdikong town, it added.
