AFTER UNION Commerce Minister Jairam Ramesh inaugurates the Tuli Paper Mill later this year in February, the facility will take, from Day 0, three years to get into operation mode, Nagaland Industries Minister Khekiho Zhimomi today told The Morung Express.
In November, the Centre’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had announced the “Christmas gift” of Rs 550 crores which is to be provided for the project.
Zhimomi assured that the mill would follow all safety norms as “every preventive measure has been taken.” Similarly, Industries Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir informed that state- of-the-art Green Technology would be employed for the huge project. A large sum of money has been sanctioned for carbon-treating, he said, and confirmed that the facility would follow the Kyoto Protocol of the World Trade Organization.
Besides the mill, the IOC depot and the LPG bottling plant-both at Dimapur- deal with hazardous chemicals.
Once operational, the Tuli Paper Mill is to produce papers for high-quality photocopies. It is targeted to have an annual turnover to the tune of Rs 250 crore. A 66- KV line from the Doyang hydel project will provide power while water requirement will be met by the Milak River.
The revival of the project will also promote the production of high-grade bamboo. Nagaland has gained useful knowledge in bamboo development during the last two years
Later this month, top officials of the industries ministry are to visit the site. The professionally-run company will be under the banner of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited.
