Dimapur, October 20 (MExN): The Congress committee of Tuli 21 Assembly Constituency has denounced the response of Mokokchung’s deputy commissioner over controlling the heightened political situation in Tuli.
The unit in an executive note from its president N Mangyang Jamir and Secretary I Purtoshi stated that the “outbreak of counter attack” by MLA T Tali and his supporters have left the people on tethers. Since the attack after the selection of S Imti Jamir by Kangtsung village, the public of Kangtsung and Tuli in general and Congress workers have been relentlessly harassed and intimidated by Tali, the unit stated. One such incident resulted in the killing of one Imlisunep on September 20 and injuring many others.
The unit informed that villagers and family members of the victim had filed complaints with the administration and police but no positive response or action was taken. On the other hand, supporters of Tali continue to intimidate the public under the protection of IRB personnel, the unit alleged.
It was informed that even students of Kangtsung GHS were assaulted in full public view by “miscreants of T Tali.” Taking advantage of the district administration’s inactiveness and ‘support of police’ the MLA’s supporters fired on innocent public members of Tuli on October 16 seriously injuring nine, the Congress stated.
“If such is the state of affairs that are being (experienced) by public of Tuli, then it is very unfortunate that the DC Mokokchung has termed the same as baseless” the committee stated.
The Congress committee has requested the NPCC, CLP leader and NYC to intervene so as to protect innocent people of Tuli and Kangtsung from the ‘terror unleashed’ by NPF MLA Tali.
The Kangtsung Senso Telongjem of Tuli also countered the Mokokchung district deputy commissioner. While listing out the tumultuous events from the killing of Imlisunep, the KST informed that complaints were lodged with the Police and ADC of Tuli. However to the dismay of villagers, no action was initiated against the perpetrators and supporters of the MLA.
The village authority had even made an appeal before the DC to intervene when nine people were injured when Tali’s supporters opened fire on the people, the KST lamented. 16 complaints have been lodged with the district administration and the police. None have been taken up, it was lamented. The KST left it to the people to judge as to whether the administration has been biased or not. As for the people of Tuli and Kangtsung, they continue to suffer in the turmoil and lawlessness, it added.
