Sumi Community of Hospital, Officers’ Hill and P.R. Hill Colonies, Kohima jointly celebrated Tuluni on Saturday at State Academy Hall under the theme, “Kuqha Kivi” (Progressive Unity).
Speaking at the programme as the Tuluni Father, Secretary LRD and Finance, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS appreciated the theme chosen by the organizers stating that progressing together in unity was the need of the hour for the Naga society.
He said the celebration of Tuluni festival falls during the mid year when all field works were completed and people pray for a bountiful harvest. “During this time of the year, we all pray to Almighty God for a bountiful harvest after putting all hard labour in the fields,” he added.
He said that there was no time for infighting but to march ahead in peace and unity uplifting each other in every possible ways. “This is how healing can be realized in our society,” he said.
He recalled that the forefather celebrated Tuluni during the first week of July spanning seven days. “Even before the advent of Christianity, if our forefathers had prayed to unseen God for a bountiful harvest, then after embracing Christianity, we have more and better reasons to be thankful to God and seek His blessings,” Kikheto said.
He said that people remain prayerful during Tuluni anticipating a good harvest and added whether they were celebrating and inculcating the true spirit of Tuluni in their personal life throughout the year.
He said discussions were being held among Sumi elders to propose observance of Tuluni for the entire first week of July and not necessarily only on July 8.
“Setting aside all political and church affiliations, let us all march together for a progressive society in unity,” he appealed.
Some of the highlights during the celebration included presentation of folk songs, traditional wear exhibition and other entertainments.
