In what could be termed as a historic achievement for online bloggers in Nagaland, who strive to bring changes in society, June 11, will be a day that they will look back at with significant value.

Meet Sangti Konyak doing his BA 2nd year. This young man along with friends from his hometown of Tobu dared to walk the talk, and aided by his Facebook friends and other well wishers who donated what they could through virtual interaction on the Facebook Group, “The Genesis Project”, constructed a new 600ft long foot pavement at the Community Health Centre in Tobu.

In a town where light bulbs have been replaced by kerosene lamps and candles, this group of young people worked tirelessly day and night for the past two months in bringing the materials all the way from Sonari, Assam. They involved themselves in constructing the foot pavement, so that they did not have to spend any resources on labor charge. These youth have become a ray of hope that every family, village, town, and city would respect.

Speaking on the inauguration of the Foot pavement, Chief Guest Naiba Konyak, Advisor DUDA said, “Normally most political leaders would have declined if invited to inaugurate a community project that is not Government initiated, yet I accepted the invitation. Reason being, this is a youth initiated project and I am proud of this younger generation who not just sits beside the computer and talk about change, but put their words into action.”

He added, “The present government has always stressed on youth empowerment and youth participation to bring changes in society knowing that youth are the future. It is encouraging to see the youths working together for change.” He expressed hope that the Genesis Project success story would inspire youths in the state to take up more positive steps for the society in the future. Kuhoi Yepthomi, member of Facebook Group Z.E.R.O Gravity called for Nagas to do away with “isms and territorial boundaries” which continues to plague our society and come together as one.

He stressed on the need for the youths to give their best to the society while promoting brotherhood among all Nagas. Sangti Konyak, acknowledging the contributors for willingly donating to the cause expressed hope that “The Genesis Project” would be able to pursue more projects in the future.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Eunice Thalih while the invocation was pronounced by Pastor of the Tobu town Baptist Church. Short speeches were delivered by the President, KU (Tobu Branch) and Vice Chairman ATCM Tobu, while the benediction was pronounced by Chaplain, PBF Tobu.
