Two persons were arrested by the Bhandari police, Wokha on January 2 for suspected rape of a minor girl. The incident is alleged to have occurred at Liphi village on the morning of January 2.
The victim, a 9 year-old, was allegedly raped while she was alone in the house, the police said. She was found crying when her parents returned home at around 10:30 am. The parents informed the police after suspecting foul play. A man-hunt was launched resulting in the arrest of two suspects, whose identities were not disclosed.
While stating that medical examination of the victim and the suspects were conducted at CHC, Bhandari, the police quoted the medical doctor as stating that only forensic examination can provide a conclusive report. According to the police, swab samples have been collected to be dispatched for forensic examination.
LLRPO calls Bhandari shutdown on Jan 4
Meanwhile, the Lotha Lower Range Public Organisation (LLRPO) has called a total bandh (shutdown) in Bhandari on January 4 from 6:00 am-6:00 pm in protest against the alleged rape. While condemning the incident, the LLRPO requested travellers to cooperate with the proposed bandh.
