Two dead as car rams into parked truck on 7th Mile NH-29

Dimapur, January 21 (MExN): Two people were killed when the vehicle they were travelling rammed into a stationary truck on Saturday night near the 7th Mile petrol pump, Chümoukedima along National Highway-29. 

According to Dimapur Police, the accident came to light after the duty officer, along with the duty party, rushed to the spot following information from a reliable source around 9:30 PM that a collision had occurred in the area.  

Upon reaching the spot, it was ascertained that the car (Alto), proceeding towards 5th Mile with two occupants, had hit the truck, parked on the side of the road, it said. One occupant died on the spot.

After learning that the other occupant (the driver) has been shifted to the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) before the arrival of the duty party to the scene for treatment, the team rushed to the hospital. 

However, the doctor declared that he succumbed to his injuries, the police said. 

The police identified the driver as Tovika (31 years),  a resident of Unity Village, Chümoukedima. The co-occupant was identified as Erang Konyak (38 years), hailing from Tobu and residing in Block-7, Chümoukedima.

According to Dimapur Police, preliminary investigation and analysis of the CCTV surveillance footage of the unfortunate vehicular collision indicated that the speeding car rammed onto the stationary parked truck by the roadside, resulting in the loss of two lives. 

Meanwhile, following the fulfillment of all legal formalities during the inquest in the presence of available witnesses, and in light of the refusal to conduct postmortem examinations, the deceased bodies were handed over to their respective family members, the police stated.

Both vehicles involved in the accident were subsequently taken to traffic control for safe custody, it added.
