Two Family Courts in Nagaland

Two Family Courts have been established in Kohima and Dimapur with the object of catering to legal needs of the people in settling issues related to matrimonial disputes.

The District & Session Judge of Mon, Tuensang, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Phek, Wokha are designated as Principal Judge for Family Court and Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kiphire, Longleng and Peren as Additional Principal Judge for Family Court, according to Annual Administrative Report 2022-2023 of the Department of Law and Justice, Nagaland.

The Department plans to set up permanent District Family Courts in phase wise manner to be in place before 2030, the report added.

Further, one Fast Track Special Court had been set up at Dimapur under the National Mission for Safety of Women for expeditious trial and disposal of pending cases of rape and offences under POCSO Act, 2012.

The Fast Track Special Court is headed by a Judge designated from among the retired Judicial Officers.
