
Newmai News Network Imphal | July 2 Heavy rains have caused flash floods in many low lying areas of the state including hills in the past few days, claiming at least two lives. In Churachandpur district, a 5-year-old girl died after she was swept away by the overflowing water of Lanva River at Gangpimual located under Thanlon subdivision last afternoon. Many areas of the district are still reeling under flash flood. Another report said a 45 year old man was washed away by the strong current of Ijei River at Rangkhung village under Noney police station in Tamenglong district. Water in Imphal, Nambul and Iril rivers, which pass through the capital, are flowing above the danger level. Water level in Makru, lyei and Barak rivers in Tamenglong district has risen beyond the danger level. Flash flood occurred yesterday in Sadar Hills of Senapati district damaged over 10 houses. Landslide reports were also received from the subdivision. Several parts of Imphal city have been inundated due to overflowed water released from Nambul River. Reports said the torrential rains triggered landslides in several locations including National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) which is considered one of the lifelines of the state.
